Project: UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, FDA Research
Deliverable: Data Visualization Graphics
Role: UX/UI Designer, Graphic Designer
Tools: Adobe Illustrator

For this project, I was one of two designers chosen to work on a FDA study through the Gillings School of Global Public Health at UNC. The goal was to create accurate data representations of the drug constituents in different brands of cigarettes and to illustrate their links to harmful health effects. Because some cigarette brands are worse than others, the challenge with this project was not only to accurately represent this information, but to also frame the information in a way that did not cause “brand switching.” Through various iterations and research, we created data visualizations that led the user to focus on the harmfulness of cigarette brands as a whole, instead of using the information to prompt a change to a less-harmful cigarette brand.
